URGENT REQUEST: TIME TO CONTACT CONGRESS RE: SYRIA.

Obama calls for Congress to Approve Attack on Syria.

For reasons of legality, morality and practicality, Peaceworks opposes U.S. military action against Syria. The situation there is tragic, to be sure, but a U.S. attack will only exacerbate, not help resolve this.

Action must be taken, but not military action. Rather, the United States should be working, in concert with all other concerned parties, to achieve a diplomatic resolution to the Syrian civil war. Our government should also support action to bring perpetrators of war crimes, whoever they might be, before the International Criminal Court.

We would like to recommend a very insightful analysis piece by Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies. We strongly encourage you to read and share this. We concur with Bennis on this issue and she has laid out the situation very clearly and cogently. Please click HERE to access this article.

As President Obama has announced he's taking this issue to Congress for their approval, we need to let our elected officials know our thoughts on the matter.

Polls show the majority of Americans oppose this. In the UK, Parliament has refused to endorse military action. So has NATO. So has the Arab League.

With sufficient constituent input, the U.S. CONGRESS MAY DO THE SAME!  Let's make our concerns clear to our elected Senators and Representatives.

IF YOU LIVE IN MISSOURI, PLEASE CONTACT:

Sen. McCaskill at:  http://mccaskill.senate.gov/?p=contact   and

PLUS CONTACT YOUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE:

This is likely:

Rep. Luetkemeyer at: http://luetkemeyer.house.gov/contact/ or

If you have a different Rep. you can find their contact info at:

DON'T FORGET THE PRESIDENT:

While President Obama has already locked in a position, it is still important to let him know your thoughts. You can contact the White House at:  http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact

We thank you, in advance for taking just a few minutes to let your elected officials know your thoughts. We also hope you will share this with others.

LET'S ALL KEEP PLUGGING FOR PEACE!
