Independence Day: Take a Stand for Peace

What are you doing for the Fourth of July? Barbeque with friends? A drive to the Lake? Maybe go see the Fireworks?

How's this sound, what if you get your swim and lounging time in during the afternoon, and then come out to Take a Stand for Peace between 5:30-7:30 p.m.? After that, you can still catch the fireworks.

We all know, but seldom reflect upon the fact that the Fourth of July celebrates independence or self-determination. As President Dwight Eisenhower once stated, "Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion."

What better way to honor our national tradition than to spend an hour or two on Independence Day taking a public stand against an illegal, immoral war of aggression that our government has initiated in an attempt to control an oil rich region and deny its people the right to self-determination?

Usually, we gather each Wednesday from 4:15-5:45 at Broadway & Providence for a Rush Hour Peace Demonstration.

On Wednesday, the Fourth, there won't be a Rush Hour, so we are moving the time and location.

This coming Wednesday (& only on this one day) we will gather at the intersection of Stadium & Providence from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to make our call for peace visible to the thousands who will be arriving for the annual fireworks display.

We will have an ample supply of signs and banners, but you are welcome to bring your own.

PARKING: There is lots of parking available within about two short blocks of the intersection. Go east on Stadium to Maryland Ave., turn north, and when you come to the stop sign at Hospital Dr., make a left and park on the left side. You can then walk back to the intersection by going west on Stadium.

HOURS: It would be great if you could come for the whole two hours, but if this isn't feasible, please come for whatever time you can. We expect that there will be more traffic during the 6:30-7:30 hour, so if you can only come for part of the time, you might try to come then. If you have questions, please give a shout.

This is a great event to bring friends and family to. Please JOIN US in STANDING for PEACE.
