No More Victims: We Declare Peace

Please join us for this important event. All are welcome.

Mark the 10th Anniversary of 9/11/01. Gather to memorialize all the lives lost — on that day and in the subsequent wars.

Come together to say: “War No More, We Declare Peace!”

Gather by 1:30 p.m. at the Islamic Center at 5th & Locust, downtown Columbia. Join in a brief interfaith call for peace, followed by a peace procession to Courthouse Square for a short program, including music and readings from the bereaved.

If possible, please bring a flower to carry in the procession. Bring an extra, if you can, to share with someone.

Sponsored by: Columbia Peace Coalition, Central Missouri Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Columbia Friends Meeting, Democracy for Missouri, GRO - Grass Roots Organizing, Heartland Chapter of Global Action to Prevent War, Islamic Center of Central Missouri, Mid-Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation, Mid-Missouri Peaceworks, Mid-Missouri Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, MU Students for Progressive Action, Native American Support Group, Peace Mennonite Church of Columbia, Rock Bridge Christian Church, St. Francis Catholic Worker Community, Stop Traffic-University of Missouri, UMC Faculty, Students and Staff Concerned About Democracy and Public Knowledge, Unitarian Universalist Social Action Committee and Veterans For Peace-Charlie Atkins Chapter.

Note: Out of respect to our Muslim brothers and sisters and their house of worship, we request that those who plan to come in to the mosque dress modestly, avoiding tank tops, halter tops, short skirts, etc. Also note that those coming in to the mosque will need to remove their shoes in the entrance way. Thanks for understanding and respecting their customs.
